Trumpeter swans are the largest native waterfowl species in North America. They have wingspans up to 8 feet in width, and stand 4 feet high, but up to nearly 6 feet in height if the neck and legs are outstretched. Hunted for their plumage in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the swans nearly became extinct; however, conservation efforts have resulted in a rebound in some areas. - tetonhikingtrails.com
