A hidden redwood forest lies off Redwood Road just a few miles over the ridge from downtown Oakland. The forest's peaceful groves give little evidence of the park's bustling past – in the mid-1800s the area was the scene of extensive logging to supply building materials for the San Francisco Bay Area. The logging era has long since passed, and a stately forest of 150-foot coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) has replaced those cut down. Here's the Skyline Boulevard Staging Area in Google map.
When I went there, Google map can't seem to follow. The map is moving in the right direction, but the voice command is all mess up. It's my second visit to Redwood Regional Park, so I just follow the map and ignored the voice command.
Here's the entrance of the parking lot...
The start of this trail is on the right-hand side of the parking lot as you enter, on the opposite side of the restroom. There's a water station right at the start of the trail...
Trail: Trailhead - Stream Trail - Chown Trail - French Trail - Starflower Trail - Tres Sendas Trail - French Trail - West Ridge - Trailhead
Big thanks to East Bay Regional Park
